Powers' Rankings: Week 16

The rumors were true: The Eastern Division is just bad - with 6 of the top 7 teams in the West, and the 2nd best team in the West with a better record than the best in the East. The east may have won the All-Star game, but they just aren't competing when the games matter. Check out where your team is ranking after the West swept through the Eastern division in Week 15.

Powers' Rankings: Week 16
By: Max Powers, Baseball Tri-Weekly

It's never too early to start thinking about the playoffs, especially with the non-waiver trade deadline looming over the start of Week 17, so we've added "Magic Numbers" and "Cursed Numbers" to the rankings. For those of you who don't get what those are, please consider resigning from the league. I'll explain them anyway.

Magic Numbers = number of wins needed to clinch either a playoff spot or their division
Cursed Number = number of losses needed to either be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention or to clinch the top MaDP in the 2018 MaDraft.

Enjoy.

Joey Votto's Piglet debut was less than impressive (.154 AVG, just 1 RBI), but Jon Lester dazzled collecting two wins, 16 K, and giving up just 3 ER in 15 IP. Seems appropriate QC visits Vegas next week as between the two teams 16 players have worn both uniforms.

Weymouth's magic number to make the playoffs is now officially HIGHER than their magic number to win their division. Man, the East is terrible this year.

Undefeated in the last 5 - impressive. Until you realize their last five consisted of the entire Eastern Division not located in Weymouth. Still, thanks to that run, Tijuana sits with the 2nd best record int he EHCC, but thanks to a tough western division, still sits in 3rd place.

Not to be outdone, Santo Domgino is undefeated in their last 6. Again, all Eastern Division opponents (including Weymouth this time). A tough three week road trip in instore for the, though, as they face off against the top three teams (WEY, QC, TIJ).

For a team so far down in the standings, it's surprising to find out the only team to sweep the Rockets 2-0 this season is Tokyo. Weymouth and Bridgewater have a chance coming up, and if they do it won't matter how easy Rakeville's final three weeks might be.

Full on sell mode might have taken a hault after a tight battle in Weymouth, and an upcoming match up with San Fernando. Rio - don't let your impending victory provide you with rose colored glasses.

San Juan hasn't won since Week 10 against Dublin. Luckily for them they're playing Dublin in Week 16. And then they get San Fernando Valley after that. Is that enough to salvage the season?
