Powers' Rankings: Week 14 (The Shake Up)

So we're more than half way through the season and what a wild ride it's been thus far. The sixth seed currently only sits 4 games up on the 11th seed. Though we've only seen one team hold onto the top seed all season, we've had 5 out of 6 teams in the West occupy the division lead, with the 6th team (Tokyo) at one point only sat half a game out of the top spot at one point. We've seen teams go from 11th place to 3rd place in the matter of two weeks, and we've seen teams put up record numbers one week, just to put forth league lowest numbers the next. With the half way mark behind us, the MiDraft around the corner, and the non-waiver Trade Deadline less than a month away, it's about time these rankings got a good old fashion shake up. Now weighing not only overall records, but recent memory playing a stronger factor, along with overall competition. Standings don't play a strong factor here, as they mean little to nothing this season it seems (until the end of August anyway).

We're not quite ready to give them the "powerhouse" title, but Quebec City has quickly become dominant again. Sure, their one loss in the last 5 weeks was actually to Weymouth, who now sits one slot down, but they're making quick work of everyone else, and if they can hold onto the Western Division there's a good shot they wouldn't even face Shaddypoo in the playoffs anyway.

The past few weeks have been quite a rollercoaster for the Poo. Crushing the once broken, once tied RBI record one week, putting up franchise offensive lows the next. Their grip on the #1 seed gets smaller each week.

Hispanics

The Hispanics are "Even-Steven". Between week 5 and 12 they're a perfect .500 team. For every 8-2 win, they had a 2-8 loss. For every 4-6 loss, they had a 6-4 win. Mix in 4 5-5 ties, and there you go. It would come at no surprise when they finish their next match up losing 2-7.

3-1-1
A few weeks ago we called out to the fact that Santo Domingo was better than their record indicated and it seems they took notice. They haven't taken a loss since Week 9, and though they lost speedster Trea Turner for the season, they gained power bat Marcell Ozuna to make up for it.

Last Five
3-1-1
Don't look now, but might Rakeville be good again? Their hatred for this series aside, the Rockets seem to have found a path back to their winning ways. With back-to-back 8-win games, the self-proclaimed "best offense int he league" has only lost one category (SB vs Tijuana) in the past 3 weeks.

2-2-1
The Doggs finally sit in 2nd place in the East, but unfortunately for them that translates to just 5th overall. Vegas pitching is a mess, while they lead the league in ERA and second in WHIP, they only best San Fernando in Wins and K's, so they're pretty much a lock to lose at least two categories every week.

How is a team that has the second most wins overall this far down? Well, as big as they win, the lose just as big. In their 7 wins they are 49-16-2, and in their 5 losses they are 7-41-2. So, when they lose, they really know how to lose.

Snake Chasers

Last Five
2-3-0
How the [once thought to be] mighty are falling. Dublin's last two wins have them squeaking by the two worst teams in the league (SFV and BRW) by a score of 5-4-1 each, and since Week 9, the Chasers have only taken 3 offensive points. The plan of "addition by subtraction" in unloading underperforming veterans hasn't paid off thus far for the Irish.

The biggest shakeup is a true swap of Caribbean franchises. As Santo Domingo rises, San Juan drops. No one is panicking int he San Juan front office just yet, but fans have started to notice as the residence os Puerto Rico are starting to take ferries to Dominican games.

The 4 week hangover is real. Since crushing the hopes and dreams of the Vegas fanbase in Week 9, Rio bats have only collected 3 offensive categories (twice SB, once RBI), including being swept in all offensive categories by the likes of Rakeville and San Fernando (not a typo).

As some things change. some things stay the same. Good ol' reliable San Fernando, still where we left them before the shake up. That was nice of the Jets to ship Ozuna out to the Caribbean. He should be very happy there.
