EHCC 2017 Performance ⅔

We’re two thirds of the way through the season and it’s midraft day. I’m all fired up on cheap whiskey and bad trades. Fair warning…

The leader in top weekly score so far is Bridgewater with 108.5 points in week 11. The leader? for worst weekly score so far is San Fernando Valley with 30.5 points in week 12.

Thnks Fr Th Mmrs
June 10th was the day of reckoning in Dublin. Adrian Gonzalez and Dustin Pedroia were unceremoniously shown the door. Both of these players had been major cogs for years for the Snake Chasers. The decision to move on from these players wasn’t unwarranted. Gonzalez had fallen off a cliff this year (maybe literally as it would explain his back injury). And Pedroia wasn’t doing much other than hitting for average. Upon this house cleaning Dublin ownership was quoted as saying, “End of an era.... fuck off adrian!... oh and welcome back Matt. Thanks for Jameson”. Kicked in the beans on the way out the door, ouch! Thnks Fr Th Mmrs, I guess.

While the decision to walk away from these players isn’t being criticized, the way that did could be. Dublin straight up dropped these big named players without shopping them to the league. Add them to the trade block, see if someone wants to buy low? At the very least they could’ve been DFA’d, get them off your roster and give the league 10 days to make an offer.

This is only a big deal because Pedroia had enough value that QC gladly used their waiver claim to add him. Proclaiming, “Woo hoo! 2B hole filled for free!”. Dublin has been deep at 2B for years, but to the rest of the league 2B is thin. QC had been desperate to upgrade at the keystone ever since Rendon moved to 3B and lost his 2B eligibility. QC was destined to spend assets at the deadline to upgrade their 2B hole. Now they don’t need to and could potentially spend those assets elsewhere, getting even better. So one of your main competitors in the West got better without giving anything up…

This awful trade for the #1 pick (and more) actually makes sense if you remember that Ryder moved to China-land sometime in 2013. I’m convinced that Ryder is trapped in some sort of space-time-asian-wormhole situation where he still believe that these players are 2013 valuable. Lynn was a budding 26 year-old pitcher coming off an 18 win season and Hanley was a 29 year-old shortstop who just put up a .345 average and 20 hr’s in a half season’s worth of games. Those might be players worth giving up the #1 pick for.

But alas, these players have actually aged over the past 4 seasons. Hanley is now a 33 year old replacement level 1B. There are similar or better players on the wire. Lynn is now a 30 year old pitcher coming off of tommy john surgery. I’m sure he’ll be great down the stretch since he’s had a whole year to rest up. These are players that LV has been trying to give away to anyone who’d listen.

LV has an infatuation with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. So much so that LV has been harassing anyone with a good pick with multiple first round mi picks and more for a chance to move up. By far these offers exceed what was actually accepted, but were rebuffed by all the other owners ahead of LV because of the considerable talent at the top of the draft board. Enter the machines…

Also, don’t tell Ryder how Breaking Bad ends, the finally hasn’t aired in the wormhole yet and can you believe Beyonce’s Super Bowl appearance? Like, OMG!

SJ, don’t you feel better now that you are free from Profar?

WEY has made aggressive “win now” moves over the past couple seasons to bolster their championship aspirations. Last year, WEY traded among other assets, Aaron Judge for Daniel Murphy. Yea, that Aaron Judge. I’m guessing that this move is still haunting WEY. Is this going to make WEY gun shy when it comes to buying at the 2017 deadline?

Still wondering who the F Tom Murphy is…

We’re two-thirds of the way through the season and TIJ is still good. I can’t explain it but it’s gone on too long to not respect it. Even more inexplicably, TIJ’s record is being held up by its pitching. TIJ has the best pitching record in the league (.664)! Before the season started I thought TIJ had the worst pitching staff in the league. Goes to show you how smart I am.

Over the past few weeks SD added Marcell Ozuna (trade), Sean Manaea (call up), Jose Berrios (call up) and Cole Hamels (from dl). At least one team is buying into this season.

Could we really see 5 playoff teams out of the West? If the season ended today we would. It’d previously been said that the West was weak this year. It’s looking more like the West is deep. Lacks definition, but all 6 teams have a legit shot at the playoffs.

San Juan is 20-34-6 (.383) over their last 6 matchups. They must be a really big Otani fans?

Feeling Unlucky?
If you don’t understand this chart by now than any words I write here aren’t going to help you. It inexplicably says that Tijuana has been the best team 14 weeks into this season. It also says that the most “lucky” teams so far in 2017 have been Quebec City and Weymouth. While the most “unlucky” teams have been San Fernando Valley, Las Vegas and Tijuana.

That’s all I’ve got. Happy drafting tonight fella’s! Even if it’s rigged...
