Jurickson Me Around
Dave, we need to have a serious talk about Jurickson Profar.
It’s just not going to happen.
Profar was such a promising prospect. A MI with average (70),
speed (55) and power (60). A perennially .300, 30-30 guy. This put him on the
top of BA’s 2012 prospect list; ahead of names like Bundy, Taveras (RIP),
Myers, Fernandez (RIP), Cole, Bogaerts, Correa and so on. This also resulted in
Profar being drafted #2 overall in the 2011 mi draft by the now defunct
Arlington franchise. Upon taking over for Arlington, Profar was one of San Juan’s
greatest assets. That was a long time ago.
Profar suffered a major shoulder injury in the spring of
2014. He missed most of 2 years with surgery and setbacks. Since then he’s
posted a .229 career average with 12 HR’s and 4 SB in 199 games. Not even close
to the lofty .300, 30-30 expectations. Profar is now wallowing away in AAA… “Although
Profar did not get much action at shortstop at the big-league level, it looks
like the Rangers want to see if they can salvage
some value by giving him a shot to play there in the minors. If he can handle
the position defensively, the struggling young infielder's added versatility
could help make up for his deficiencies
as a hitter.” The red flags here being salvage and deficiencies.
Profar is 24 and back in AAA. Doing nothing all that notable
down there, burning a spot on San Juan’s roster. It’s just not going to happen
Dave. This has simply gone too far. We’re just tired of watching you hurt
yourself like this. It’s time to let go…
