EHCC 2013 Final Performance
It’s all over… Well, the regular season that is.
Above is the final results for the 2013 regular season. The winner for weekly top scorer for 2013 was The Tijuana Hispanics who scored 104.5 points in week 16. The loser for weekly top scorer for 2013 was The Quebec City Piglets who scored only 24 points in week 13.
So you wanted some drama? Santo Domingo came out of nowhere, jumping from the 4 seed to 1 seed in week 22 with their best week in franchise history. SD takes the 1 seed on tie breakers over Las Vegas whom both finished 127-81-12 (.605). SD beat up on Tijuana to a score of 9-1 in week 22. The numbers tell us that TIJ didn’t have a bad week. In fact, TIJ had the third best week in the EHCC, but was unfortunate to run into a SD team with a little extra motivation.
Of course SD’s extra motivation for this matchup was triggered by the homecoming of Ryan Zimmerman (and his 5 homeruns) to play his old team. TIJ inexplicable traded the onetime franchise player to SD at the waiver trade deadline for nothing more than a pick. A first round pick, but a pick nonetheless. TIJ may have been caught with his eyes looking too far into the future when he traded his veteran third baseman to a division rival in the middle of a pennant run.
The most far reaching impact of SD’s 9-1 win over TIJ could be the 16-12-2 final line that SD has posted over TIJ this season. The first tiebreaker in the playoffs is regular season head-to-head winning percentage. This could be the difference between going on or going home should TIJ advance to meet SD in the playoffs.
How exactly is punting saves a winning strategy? The Dublin Snake Chasers finished the season with a record of 129-86-5. Of his 86 loses, 22 were due to DUB refusing to carry any closers on his team and punting the save category. Since DUB only lost the division (and bye) by 1.5 games, it makes you wonder, what if DUB had captured just a couple of those points and won division? DUB could be sitting on his couch right now enjoying a Guinness, instead he’s opened the door to a potential early exit by virtue of having to play on wildcard week.
