EHCC 2012 Performance 3/3
The regular season has come to an end. The numbers are in.
The last few weeks of the regular season were dramatically exciting. Against the odds the Tijuana Hispanics found themselves a spot in the playoffs. More appropriately I’d say that Tijuana demanded a spot in the playoffs by going 43-16-1 in their last 6 matchups. This run was undoubtedly spurred by the trade of Cliff Lee for Jacoby Ellsbury. Congrats to Tijuana for keeping the faith.
Conversely the collapse of the Santo Domingo All Star Factory has been epic. SD was sitting pretty in 2nd place at the 2/3 mark of the season. Seemly there was nothing to do but to get ready for the playoffs. Not so fast. SD went 21-38-1 in their last 6 matchups. This was mostly driven by the curious injuries to two of the most potent hitters in baseball, David Ortiz and Jose Bautista. Both were injured on the same day, roughly at the same time. Both spent exactly 39 days on the DL. Both came back for one game. Both would not play again in 2012. SD ASF has launched an official investigation on this matter. Of course, a collapse of that magnitude cannot be attributed to a couple injuries. According to the numbers SD had been over achieving all season. The last 6 weeks were a painful regression to the mean.
Again congrats to Tijuana and all the other teams who made the dance.
