New for the 2011 season, the Peoria Free Press is launching a new section called, "Grade The Trade", which will highlight all of the major (and not so major depending on how busy the market is) trades throughout the year in the EHCC. First up is the recent trade between the Las Vegas Doggs and Peoria Cardinals.

Needing to fill a hole left behind by Rafael Soriano's sudden refusal to close games, the Cardinals have locked up one of the most dominant closers in the game in Carlos Marmol, while also swapping two OF's hoping that a change of scenery can rejuvenate their young, but established careers.

So. How do YOU grade this trade?

The Doggs signed Markakis right before the 2010 season ended so he wasn't really worth much. They were lucky to get anything for him before the cuts came. Losing Marmol hurts the Doggs, as they also lost a bunch of closers and will go into 2011 with just John Axford. Sizemore better produce if the Doggs are going to be considered the winner in this trade.

The Cardinals get a new 4th outfielder while continuing to trade away future potential. Sure, they help their saves potential but that's one category. They got the best player (Marmol) in this trade but the best player only gives them one category in each week's match up. They better hope Sizemore sucks in 2011. He's really the only guy that can determine who wins/loses in this trade.
